A day trip to Mekong Island is an invitation to enter this world.
Our boat is waiting for you at the wharf of Hotel Sofitel Cambodiana every morning.
The way up the Mekong River to our park takes one hour. We leave behind the splendid view of the Royal Palace for a wilder one of fishing villages on the banks of Mekong River, people using various types of fishing, cows going down to the river to drink or to be washed, and people taking their baths.....
North of the island of Oknhatey is Mekong Island: this ten ha park has been planned as an authentic showcase for the culture, handicraft, zoological and agricultural richness of Cambodia.
- 4 ha designated for agriculture are farmed by the peasants of the island for their village food
- In a traditional village of handicraft production, the inhabitants of the island continue to making the thread and bobbins, dyeing and weaving silk on old looms, pottery, osier craftwork, wood carving, painting.
- Animals still present in the Cambodian forests have been gathered : elephants (with the possibility of riding monkeys, bears, snakes....
- A beautifully designed hall hosts classical and traditional Khmer dances famous worldwide.
- Finally a big restaurant, made of varnished wood, with a pagoda styled roof, welcomes visitors for lunch. From there the view over both arms of the Mekong river is unique.
In the middle of the afternoon, the boat will take you back to Phnom Penh.
The trip to Mekong Island includes a trip by boat, a visit to the park, lunch and the show.
