- There are currently only two producers (not one as was previously reported) of oil and gas in Brunei Darussalam; the Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP)and the Block B Joint Venture (BBJV). The Maharajalela/Jamalulalam Field located in a concession area (Block B) awarded to the latter and operated by Elf Petroleum Asia b.v. started production during the first quarter of 1999.
- The Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) is processed and sold by Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd (BLNG), a joint venture company owned by the Government of His Majesty the Sultan dan Yang Dipertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam (50%), Shell (25%) and Mitsubishi Corporation (25%).
- Shipping services for the LNG sold to different buyers in Japan and South Korea are provided by the Brunei Shell Tankers Sdn. Bhd (BST) and Brunei Gas Carriers Sdn Bhd (BGC). The latter will only start the deliver service in 2002.
- Fuel including motorgasoline and bottled liquified petroleum gas (LPG) as well as some lubricant products are distributed in Brunei Darussalam by the Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd (BSM). BSM is a joint venture company owned by the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam (50%) and Shell (50%).
- BSP, BLNG, BSM and BST have confirmed via their latest response to the Y2K Readiness Survey their 100% Y2K readiness status. Similar confirmation has also been received from Elf Petroleum Asia b.v. and and Brunei Gas Carriers Sdn Bhd.
- The latest survey responses from the oil and gas sector agencies reaffirm the GREEN Y2K readiness status rating given to the Energy Sector in the previous report.
